Abstract
768,485. Bending glass. LIBBEYOWENS-FORD GLASS CO. April 4, 1955 [July 16, 1954], No. 9699/55. Class 56 A mould for bending flat glass sheets in such a way that when the bent sheets are subsequently annealed a zone in compression is formed, the zone defining the region along which the glass is to be cut, e.g. for making a laminated curved windscreen, comprises a pivotally-mounted section 37 and a swingably-mounted section 38 pivoted to the other at 39. Within the space defined by the rails 41, 42, 45, 47 which form the perimeter of the blank mould, bars 75 and shields 76 are arranged as shown to form a thermal barrier. The portion of the bent glass not in contact with the rails 41, 42, 45, 47 and bars 75 and not shielded by the members 76 will, when annealed, be the zone in compression. Positioning members 57, 69 for the flat sheets are provided; also supports for the intermediate portions of the sheets which supports sink as the sheets bend into contact with the closing mould.
