Abstract

In making solid moulded objects such as condensers and insulators (see Group XXXVI), a hydraulically hardenable material as filler, with or without inert fillers, is mixed with at least 10 per cent by weight of a silicone resin dissolved in a volatile solvent, and the resulting plastic mixture is then freed of solvent, comminuted, shaped by presses and hardened by heating. Hydraulically hardenable materials specified are calcium silicate, calcium aluminate, plaster of Paris and Portland and aluminous or blast furnace slag cements; inert fillers specified are barium titanate, ferrites, magnetic powdered iron, metal oxides and other metallic powders. In Examples (I) a toluene solution of a silicone resin is mixed with aluminous cement and heated at 100 DEG C. to remove the solvent and to yield a mixture of 20 per cent resin and 80 per cent filler, which after comminution is moulded into the desired shape and cured; (2) a moulding mixture is similarly made having the composition 10 per cent silicone resin, 10 per cent aluminous cement and 80 per cent barium titanate.
