Abstract

767,970. Gas-turbine jet-propulsion plant. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. March 14, 1955 [April 26, 1954], No. 12073/54. Class 110 (3). A gas-turbine jet-propulsion engine has a propulsive nozzle comprising an outer lip 18 connected to the downstream end of the turbine casing 15 and extending radially inwardly from the casing to terminate downstream of and adjacent to the turbine rotor 10, and an inner lip 17 registering with the inner ends of the turbine blades 11 and extending a short distance downstream therefrom to form with the outer lip a convergent passage so shaped that the mean direction of the gas stream passing through the passage lies on the surface of a cone. The invention is applied to " lift engines". As shown in Fig. 1, the inner lip is formed by extensions of the blade platforms 19. As shown in Fig. 3, the inner lip is formed by a diaphragm 33 fixed to a flange 10a on the turbine rotor, and the outer lip is fixed to the cover by a Z-section ring and is extended to form the shroud 14c of the turbine blades. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the shroud of the turbine blades extends between the member forming the outer lip and the shroud of the guide blades. The inner lip may be cylindrical and may be formed by an axial flange on a diaphragm corresponding with the turbine disc and supported by radial struts from the outer lip.
