Abstract

767,473. Electroplating. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 8, 1955 [March 17, 1954], No. 6783/55. Class 41. Apparatus for supporting workpieces 26, 28, 30 during electroplating comprises a frame 18 to which is secured and electrically connected a member 36 or 38 having a non-conducting covering 44 over part of which is a conductive layer 46 electrically connected to the member and easily strippable from the covering 44 thereon. The frame 18 has fingers 20, 22, 24 which support the workpieces 26, 28, 30 and direct current to the workpieces through their ends which alone are not covered with insulation 44. Welded at 42 to the vertical limbs of the frame 18 are C-shaped metal members which, with their insulating covering 44 and superimposed conducting layers 46, form bars 36, 38. The insulating covering may be natural or synthetic rubber or polyvinyl chloride, and the conducting layer may be a mixture of finelydivided copper and an organic binder. In addition, the insulating covering on each of the fingers 20, 22, 24 may be continued over the end of the fingers and a conducting layer which contacts the finger through a metal stud may be formed on the insulating covering from which it is easily strippable.
