Abstract

767,108. Surfacing floors &c. NUFLOOR, Ltd. Feb. 14, 1955 [Nov. 13, 1953], No. 31611/53. Class 60 A machine for surfacing floors, decks and the like comprises a main body 11 on top of which is mounted an electric motor 12 which drives, through a belt, a sandpapering drum 14 and also directly the impeller of a centrifugal suction device. The casing 15 of the suction device is bolted directly to the motor frame or is made in one piece with the motor and plate; the nozzle 16 of the suction 'device and part 17 of the duct leading to the body thereof are made as an integral part of the machine body 11. The outlet 18 from the casing 15 discharges directly into a filter bag 19 which when inflated is of approximately rectangular prismatic form with an entry at one corner, the bag resting on the rear part of the flat top of the body 11 between the motor 12 and the inclined column 21 carrying the handle 22. The drum 14 may be overhung or journalled in bearings at both ends. The body 1 is provided with two running wheels 23 running on short spindles fixedly secured in the body by nuts 24. A rear castor'25 is vertically adjustable to enable the drum 14 to be raised off the floor and lowered on to it. A vertical stem 26 on the castor can swivel and also slide vertically in a bushing 27 held in a boss 28 on the body 11 and is connected through a bell-crank lever 29, journalled in a bearing block 31, and a rod 32 to a hand lever 33 with a catch co-acting with a quadrant at the length of the rod 32 and thus the presthe upper end of the column 21. To enable the length of the rod 32 and thus the pressure of the drum 14 to be adjusted, the rod is in two pieces, the adjacent ends being threaded to opposite hands and connected by a turnbuckle 34 of non-circular section sliding through a knurled handwheel 35: Specification 513,909 is referred to.
