Abstract

766,314. Erecting buildings; roofs. SMITH, C. A. V. April 2, 1953 [Feb. 8, 1952], No. 3407/52. Classes 20(1) and 20(4) A building which may be temporary or permanent, and comprising a number of vaulted members 11 arranged side by side, is erected by laying two bases 14, e.g. of concrete, each base 14 having a series of foot members 16 hinged thereto at XY, securing the ends of a member 11 to opposed members 16 when the member 11 is horizontal, raising the member 11 to the vertical, e.g. by a cable 20, 22, by swinging the member 11 about the hinges XY, securing it in the vertical position, and repeating the operation for a plurality of members 11. The members 11 comprise a framework 13 covered by sheeting 23, Fig. 4, e.g. aluminium. As shown the top faces 15 of the bases 14 may be inclined at 30 degrees, or semi-circular members 11 may be used, in which case the tops 15 are horizontal. The members 11 have end spigots which fit in sockets on the members 16, and the members 11 may be anchored in the vertical position by bolts engaging threaded sockets grouted in the bases 14. In a modification, Fig. 10, each member 11 comprises a light framework of flexible rods with a top covering of sprayed-on cocooning material, adjacent members 17 abutting in erected position. The members. 16 may be supported on the bases 14 by ball and socket joints to prevent distortion of the members 11 which would occur on erection in the example according to Fig. 3 due to the inclination of the faces 15. In this example, gutters 24, Fig. 4, may be provided along one edge of each member 11, sheets 23 of adjacent members overlapping the gutter. Specifications 766,312: and 766,313 are referred to.
