Abstract

766,055. Electrostatic generators. SOC. ANON. DE MACHINES ELECTROSTATIQUES. March 8, 1955 [March 8, 1954], No. 6792/55. Class 35. A self-exciting, conducting charge-carrier type electrostatic generator, is made to have a very rapid voltage build-up for ignition purposes, by having a large number of plates, thus providing a large number of cycles per revolution, having inducing plates 1, 2 on both sides of the charge-carriers 4, thus providing a low stray capacity, and also covering the chargecarriers with insulation 3, thus increasing the working capacity. The charge-carriers are embedded in the skirt of an insulating bell 3, running in an annular slot 13 in an insulating stator 12, the charge inducers being mounted on opposite surfaces of this slot. The chargeinducers are in two groups of opposite polarity, the commutation through brushes 6 being arranged so that the charge-carriers are alternately 'connected to the equalizing ring 14, which may be earthed, and to contacts 8, 9 connected to inducing plates of alternate polarity. The invention is described in respect of the machine having four inducers and eight carries as shown, and one having six inducers and twenty-six carriers. The machine may be of plate-type and various dielectric media are mentioned. Stator and rotor may be interchanged.
