Abstract
765,894. Coating processes. MEISTER, W., and MEISTER, A. Nov. 9, 1954, No. 32342/54. Class 95 [Also in Group VIII] In a method for tightening textile hoses or tubes, these are. filled at least once, with a liquid containing a tightening material such as rubber solution or latex and are then emptied and the tightening material adhering to the inside of the hose is dried, the hose being filled with water under pressure before filling the same for the first time with the liquid containing the tightening material. Prior to the treatment with water under pressure flat and/or loosely woven or plaited hoses may be externally treated by passing through a bath of a rubber containing solution after which they are pressed to bring the liquid content of the fabric to a desired value. Flat hoses or tubes, after external treatment, are subjected to compression in the direction of the longer axis of their section to transform the latter to be approximately quadrilateral with rounded edges. As shown, a hose 1, Fig. 1, having a flat section, Fig. 3, is subjected to pressure as shown by the arrows F, Fig. 1, whereby its section is transformed into that shown in Fig. 4. The hose then passes between parallel bars 2, Fig. 1, through a rubber containing bath 4, over pulley 5 and guiding bar 6 and then through the nip between pressing cylinders 7 where the section is deformed by opening the original folds 1a and forming two new folds 1b as shown in Fig. 7. Thereafter the hose assumes a quadrilateral section as shown in .Fig. 8. The hose is then dried, filled with water under pressure and emptied. It is then suspended vertically and filled with a rubbercontaining liquid. Upon emptying the hose, it is left in the same position to dry and set the layer of rubber adhering to the inner surface. It may then be repeatedly refilled with rubber-containing liquid, emptied and dried to deposit further layers of rubber; four to six layers being specified. The term " tightening " is used as meaning rendering 'impervious to water and other liquids.
