In a contact rectifier regulation of the direct voltage output is effected by the operation of the combination of three known methods which comprise (a) variation of the supply voltage by means of a tapped transformer 15; (b) variation of closure times of the contacts 7 ... 12 by means of an induction regulator 14<SP>1</SP> whereby the position of the contact driving motor 13 is varied relative to the phase position of the supply; (c) variation of the effect of the switching chokes 4, 5, 6 by means of a variable inductor 18 and a saturable reactor 17 which supply a pre-magnetizing, such as 16, on each switching choke.
