Class 20(1) A pneumatically operated telescopic illumination mast has, within it, a current supply cable 8, secured at its ends respectively to the base of the component carrying the light lowered. As source 7 and to an upwardly tapering socket member 1 at the base of the mast, and surrounded by a coil spring sheath so that it coils automatically into the socket member when the mast is shown, a flange 2a , at the lower end of a tube 2 rests on member 1 and further tubes 3, 4, 5, 6 telescope into tube 2, tube 3 supporting, at its top, a light source 7. At the lower ends of tubes 3, 4, 5, 6 there are inwardly and outwardly extending flanges 3a, 4a, 5a, 6a. Springs 9, 10, 12, 14 and 11, 13, 15, 16 are supported respectively on the outer edges of flanges 3a, 4a, 5a, 6a and on the inner edges of flanges 4a, 5a, 6a and on flange 2a so that movement of the telescoping tubes, when approaching their extreme positions, is damped. Cable 8 is clamped at 8a to flange 3a of tube 3 and connected to air switch which is actuated by excess pressure after extension of the mast.
