Abstract

763,985. Manure distributers. VAN DER LELY N.V., C. March 26, 1954 [April 2, 1953 ; July 27, 1953 ; Oct. 22, 1953], No: 8880/54. Class 6(1). A fertiliser-distributer of the kind in which the powder is discharged through apertures in a hopper and spread over a strip of ground of considerably greater width than the track of the ground wheels of the supporting vehicle, is characterised in that the machine includes a plurality of oscillating members which receive the material from the hopper and collectively distribute the discharged powder evenly over the ground. In Fig. 1, the device is wheelless and is carried by arms 3A, 3B, secured to the tractor back-axle. The hopper is of stepshape in plan with vertical walls 9A, 10A, 11A, 9B, 10B, 11B, arranged in echelon. The base of the hopper is spaced below the walls and is in two overlapping parts 16A, 16B together defining a parallelogram and being reciprocable in opposite directions by a mechanism 20 driven from the tractor power take-off. Grooves 27 assist the flow of material transversely during reciprocation and adjustable slides are arranged on the vertical hopper walls to control the rate of discharge. The portions 26B beyond the track of the tractor-wheels 4 may be hinged back, for transport. In Fig. 5, the hopper is in two halves 33A, 33B arranged behind one another but spaced transversely. The material gravitates past adjustable slides 54A on the vertical side-walls 53A of the hoppers to fall on to inclined plates 35A, 35B which are reciprocated laterally by mechanism 43, the plates being linked together by a loose bolt 47 which causes them to impart jerks to one another. The plates 35A, 35B are triangular in plan the outer sections being hinged at 57A, 57B. In Fig. 13, an adjustable slide 167 is mounted on the rear wall 166 of a hopper 162 and a serrated comb 169 is reciprocated adjacent to the gap left by the slide. The discharged material is picked up by projections on a roller 172 and is thrown against a cover 179 whence it falls uniformly into fluted gutters 180 which are dragged along with their lower ends in contact with the ground. These lower ends may carry eccentric rollers to impart a jigging motion to the gutters. In Fig. 15 rotating discs 196 carry the material away from the hoppers 194 and paddles on a rotating shaft 199 impel the fertilizer into flutes in an inclined reciprocating plate 206, the motion of the parts being derived from the land-wheels 191. To ensure comminution of the material small plates carrying pins or projections are mounted adjacent to the outlets of the gutters or flutes.
