Abstract
<PICT:0763239/III/1> <PICT:0763239/III/2> A machine for applying coating material to wall surfaces, pipe surfaces and the like includes a hopper 11 fixedly mounted in a frame unit 1, the hopper having at least two drums 12, 13, mounted on shafts in its open front end and feed means in the hopper to advance the coating material between the drums which have resilient surfaces and are rotated at a sufficient speed to discharge the coating material in a tangential stream from the drums to strike the wall or other surface. The frame unit may be pivotally mounted in an upright frame 2 in turn mounted on swivelled rollers. The feed means may include feed screws 31 journalled in the hopper and also a pusher plate 42, slidably mounted adjacent the bottom of the hopper beneath the feed screws, which is reciprocated by a motor-operated cam 43. Fig. 15 shows a feed means which consists of a belt 66, carrying the coating material towards the drums 12, 13, and provided with a resilient drum 68 rotatably contacting the material to give it the same speed as the belt and a second drum 70 to feed the material to the drums 12, 13 at a desired velocity. A number of these belt feeding means may be used to feed a corresponding number of spaced drums mounted in the open front end of the hopper to discharge a number of spaced streams of material. Deflecting means, consisting of a roller 49 formed from a plurality of drums mounted on a shaft 50 journalled adjacent the free ends of a pair of bracket arms 54 whose opposite ends are adjustably secured to brackets 56 attached to the frame unit, may be provided in front of the drums 12, 13 to divert the discharge path of the coating material in a given direction. The frame unit 1 may be raised and lowered, by cables, in the upright frame 2 and the drums 12, 13 are adjustable to allow for various types of gripping pressure. The various moving parts of the machine, i.e. the drums 12, 13, the feed means, the deflector means, and the frame unit raising and lowering and pivoting means, are driven by electric motors.
