Abstract

The tendency of mineral lubricating oil to become less transparent on storage is inhibited by dissolving in the oil 0.0008-0.003 per cent by weight of a wax which contains esters as its major component. Waxes mentioned are beeswax, carnauba wax candelilla wax, montain wax, iodized montan wax and insect waxes produced by coccidae. The effect of dissolving 0.0005, 0.001, 0.003 or 0.005 per cent by weight of raw or oxidized montan wax in mineral lubricating oil is described.
