Abstract
762,917. Moulds. NIELSEN, F. Sept. 16, 1954 [Sept. 28, 1953], No. 26920/54. Addition to 690,790. Class 83 (1). In a method of casting metal in which metal is guided by an open gutter 1 widened in stages from the end of the inlet V to the gate, the initial energy of the metal being poured is destroyed by at least two deflections or other energy-consuming processes so that the energy of the metal on entering the mould does not exceed 25 per cent of the initial energy. The inlet may be fed from above or below or from a series of runners as described in the parent Specification. The gutter may increase in width, and the deflections may also decrease in amount or be omitted, towards the top. Several moulds A may be filled from a single gutter, and a riser S. The gutter may be completely open or be closed at the top to prevent overflow.
