762,027. Electric motors. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 25, 1955 [June 3, 1954], No. 16479/54. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVII] A portable device for actuating switchgear winding mechanism comprises a frame carrying a driving shaft 7 adapted for separable engagement with the winding mechanism, an electric driving motor for the shaft having its stator eccentrically mounted for angular displacement about the shaft axis in response to reaction torque upon the stator, springs 15 arranged to oppose the reaction torque, and limit switches LS<SP>1</SP>, LS<SP>2</SP> responsive to angular displacement of the stator in excess of a predetermined amount for effecting de-energization of the motor. The portable frame comprises tubular end members 1, 2, joined by horizontal members 3, 4, 5 and the frame is provided with a carrying handle 3<SP>1</SP>. The unit 6 is capable of swinging about the axis of the shaft 7 under the influence of the reaction torque which is set up when the winder is being used, and the unit is provided with lug 13 co-operating with springs 15 which act upon the unit in opposition to the reaction torque. Operating arms 16, 17 of the limit switches engage opposite sides of the unit 6, each switch being effective for one direction of rotation of the driving motor. The portable frame also carries a main contactor for the driving motor, a push-button unit for starting and stopping the motor, and a selector switch for reversing. In another arrangement, both ends of the driving shaft are engageable with the winding mechanism, either direction of winding being obtainable by selectively engaging the appropriate end of the shaft with the winding mechanism. The angular displacement of the motor stator is then always in the same direction so that only a single spring and limit switch are required.
