Abstract

761,332. Clocks and watches. JORIOT, C. Nov. 25, 1954 [Dec. 24, 1953], No. 34242/54. Class 139. In a time-piece excess movements of the balance are damped by mechanical damping means. Pivoted on a screw 3, Fig. 1, which is located in line with the lever and balance pivots 6, 4 is a plate member 1. A pin 11 depends from the lever 7 and enters a rectangular slot 12 in the plate member 1. As the balance oscillates normally and the impulse pin 14 oscillates the lever 7 between the banking pins 15a, 15b the pin 11 reciprocates the plate 1. A pin 13, Fig. 11, on the safety roller 5a swings past the end 1a of the member 1 as the balance swings counterclockwise and just touches said end at the end of the clockwise swing of the balance. If the amplitude of oscillation of the balance exceeds the desired normal the pin 13 will as the balance swings clockwise meet the end 1a and move the member 1 counter-clockwise about its pivot, the movement of the balance being thereby damped. The extent of movement of the member 1 by the pin 13 is limited by an adjustable stop 16. The lost motion connection between the lever 7 and the member 1 may comprise a pair of depending pins on the lever embracing the end 1a of the member 1, Fig. 13 (not shown), or a V-shaped extension of the end 1a embracing a projection on the lever, Fig. 15 (not shown).
