Abstract

761,127. Electrophonic musical instruments. HOHNER AKT.-GES., M. Feb. 23, 1953 [Feb. 29, 1952], No. 5018/53. Class 88 (2). The components of an electrophonic musical instrument are housed in the framework of an accordion and the timbre control with its operating switch keys takes the place of the usual bass keyboard. Timbre is controlled by filter coils 12, Fig. 3, switches 13 and buttons 9 assembled as a unit 7 at one end of the bellows. The same unit 7 incorporates locking means 10 for the buttons and switches 11 controlling decay and vibrato. The bellows are held together at 6, Fig. 1, so that only the top of the bellows can spread and the electric wiring 8 is relieved of strain. A valve unit 14 for generating distorted oscillations, and an oscillator coil 18 are mounted on a common base-plate 15. A loud-speaker 21 is carried by a partition 5 which screens the circuit elements from the heat of the valves. The oscillator coil 18 is associated with a reed spring 25 carrying an armature 23. A frequency vibrato is produced when the spring vibrates. Spreading of the bellows operates the volume control 53 through a linkage 35 and a cable drive 34. The connections of the oscillator coil 18 may be changed to provide an octave shift by means of a sliding handle 33, links 31, 32, and a shaft 28. Control shaft 24 controls the tuning of the whole instrument and shaft 27 controls the vibrato frequency. Beneath the keys 36 are pitch controlling switches 37. In another arrangement (not shown) a manually-operated rod slides longitudinally to provide vibrato and rotates about one end to control the timbre. Specification 706,862 is referred to.
