Abstract
760,354. Hydraulic shock absorbers. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO., Ltd. Feb. 8, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 4955/54. Addition to 657,030. Class 108(3). The shock absorber of the parent Specification has foot-valve casting 3 supported on the lower end of the pressure cylinder 6 and located upon a slug closure 4 for the outer tube 5, means associated with the casting 3 and closure 4 to prevent their relative lateral displacement, and passages 12 in the casting connecting the reservoir R and the cylinder 6. As shown, the displacement preventing means comprises a boss 4a on the casting 4 which enters within castellations 3b projecting from the annular lower surface of the casting 3. The spaces between the castellations provide the passages 12. The casting 3 has a spider portion 3d which supports a spindle 7 for a valve 8. The boss 4a may be replaced by a hollow cylinder, the interior surface of which is engaged by a member or members depending from the casting 3.
