760,165. Electric correspondence control systems. B. & H. INSTRUMENT CO., Inc. June 10, 1954 [Jan. 2, 1954; May 19, 1954], No. 17141/54. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XXXVI] Apparatus for testing a heat-sensing unit, e.g. a thermocouple, comprises a housing adapted to enclose the unit, and containing a heating element and a thermo-responsive device whereby the heat-sensing unit and the thermoresponsive device are both heated to a controlled temperature, and their outputs are compared. As shown (Fig. 1), the housing consists of two, stainless steel, tubular parts 23, 24 assembled at right angles, the one part 23 being located over the heat-sensing unit 50, and containing a thermocouple 27 mounted in a heat-conductive element 26, and a heater winding 57 wound on a former 25, the leads passing through the other part 24 to a terminal block 35, whose one end 37 houses a plug connector 31, and whose other end 38 acts as a thermal insulating wall. The thermocouple 27 may alternatively be a temperature-sensitive resistance winding 136 (Fig. 11), which is connected to a D.C. bridge circuit for determining its resistance, and hence the temperature inside the test unit.
