A method of sharpening tools in which diamonds are held in a metallic bedding medium, e.g. a cemented carbide, comprising removing the bedding metal by sparking between the tool and an electrode. The tool and electrode may be moved relatively, e.g. if the tool is a wheel it may be rotated, and the end of the electrode, which may be copper or brass, may be shaped to impart a desired contour to the tool. The tool and electrode may be immersed in a coolant, e.g. petroleum.
