Abstract

759,286. Regenerating ammoniacal scrubbing liquor. COLLIN AKT.-GES., F. J. Jan. 21, 1954 [March 5, 1953], No. 1832/54. Class 55(2). In a process of regenerating ammoniacal liquor after use in scrubbing H 2 S and CO 2 from for example coke-oven gases, most of the fouled liquor preheated by indirect heat exchange with hot regenerated liquor is introduced into the regenerating apparatus at 5 and passes downwards over suitable packing material through a first zone 2, liberated gases pass upwardly into a washing zone 1 where NHs is removed from all the regeneration gases by scrubbing with the cold remainder of the fouled liquor and partly regenerated liquor collects in the base of zone 2 ; liquor from the base of zone 2 is pumped by pump 6 through an indirect heat exchanger 7 where the liquor is further heated and then passes into a zone 3 and downwardly over packing material therein, collecting in the base of the zone, gases liberated in heat exchanger 7 pass through a pipe 8 into the washing zone 1 ; liquor from the base of zone 3 is pumped by a pump 9 through a further indirect heat exchanger 10 where the regeneration is completed, gases liberated in heat-exchanger 10 through a pipe 11 to the washing stage 1 and regenerated liquor collects in the sump 4 and is withdrawn at 14. The cold fouled liquor for the washing stage 1 is introduced at 12 and washed regeneration gases consisting of about 70-80 per cent H. 2 S and 10-15 per cent CO 2 leave at 13. Steam may be introduced into zones 2 and 3 by pipes 16 and 15. The number of zones such as 2 and 3 and indirect heat exchangers may be increased if necessary. The regenerated liquor contains less than 0À5 g. H 2 S per litre.
