Abstract

758,733. Electric indicating systems. SPERRY CORPORATION. Nov. 20, 1953, No. 32321/53. Class 40(1) [Also in Group XXXV] Apparatus for measuring the tilt of, e.g. a platform comprises two containers 10, 20 (Fig. 1) connected by tubes 22 23 each containing parallel plates 11, 14 forming a capacitor, and partly filled with a liquid dielectric 21, whereby a change in level causes the dielectric 21 to flow from one container to the other producing a change in the capacity of the cells 10, 20 which is measured in a bridge circuit. The dielectric is preferably a silicone oil. The apparatus may be used to supply a vertical reference to a gyro-stabilized unit (Fig. 5), employing two perpendicular horizon gyros 31, 32 which are supplied with precessing tongues by motors 33, 34 fed with the amplified output signals of two tiltmeasuring devices 10, 20 to cause the unit to be maintained level.
