Abstract

758,641. Positive clutches. DE VLIEG CORPORATION. March 16, 1953, No. 7227/53. Class 80(2) [Also in Group XXII] A positive clutch member rigidly attached to a helically toothed gear wheel has facing clutch teeth each tooth having helical side faces of the same hand the lead and direction of which are the same as those of the gear wheel whereby axial loads resulting from the gear tooth form are balanced by the complementary clutch member which is fixed to a shaft upon which the gear is slidable. As shown in Fig. 1 a helical gear wheel 19 is integral with a facially toothed clutch member 23 with which it is axially slidable on a shaft 17 into engagement with a complementary clutch member 26 fixed to the shaft 17. The side faces 103, 104 and 103a, 104a of the clutch teeth are formed as helical surfaces by a method and machines described (see Group XXII). The end faces 100, 101, 100a, 101a, of the teeth are asymmetric and are spaced from the surfaces 105-107, 105a- 107a, between the teeth when the clutch is fully engaged.
