Abstract

757,593. Sawtooth generating circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 25, 1954 [June 25, 1953], No. 17598/53. Class 40 (6). A sawtooth current generator of the resonant return type comprises a driver valve driven by pulses produced in the output valve of a sinusoidal oscillator. The Figure shows a convetional driver valve output circuit for producing a sawtooth current in a deflection coil 5 and comprising an H.T. boost capacitor 3 and a damping diode 6. The drive for the output valve is obtained from a sinusoidal oscillator valve 7 biased by a grid leak circuit such that anode current flows only during the peaks of the grid voltage waveform. The resulting current pulses through the valve 7 are made more rectangular by feeding back of voltage through a capacitor 16, the grid current limiting the peaks of the grid voltage and the resistor 11 being of such magnitude that the voltage fed back does not distort the sinusoidal voltage in the tuned circuit 8, 9. The feedback voltage may alternatively be obtained from a winding on transformer 2 or from an undecoupled resistor in the screen grid of a screened grid output valve. The point during the forward stroke at which the driver valve becomes conductive is adjusted by adjusting the width of the pulse on its grid and this is done by adjusting the value of the grid leak and thus the bias of valve 7.
