Abstract
Organo-silicon compounds are prepared by reacting at elevated temperatures a compound containing fluorine bound to silicon with an aluminium compound of the formula AlR3 or AlR3.X, where R is an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group and X is one molecule of ether. Suitable silicon compounds are the salts of fluosilicic acid, silanes such as SiF4, SiF3Cl, SiF3Br and SiF2Cl2, and those of the formula SiFnR4-n where R is as above and n is an integer of 1 to 4. Suitable aluminium compounds are aluminium triethyl and trimethyl, particularly their etherates, and the triphenyl and tribenzyl. Preferred reaction temperatures are from 100 DEG to 250 DEG C. and the reaction may be under pressure. The products are generally mixtures of organofluorosilanes and hydrocarbonyl silanes.
