Abstract
756,495. inductor machines. SELECTRA, Ltd., and KREBS, E. W. March 14, 1955 [March 29, 1954], No. 9185/54. Class 35. In an inductor-type motor, generator or converter having S1 stator slots and S2 rotor slots, and having mutually non-inductive stator windings wound for P1 and P2 pole-pairs respectively, the number of rotor slots S2, or the difference in the slot-numbers (S1-S2) or (S2-S1), is equal to P1+P2. As shown, the machine has twelve stator slots 11 carrying three-phase exciting and output windings 12, 13 wound for four and two poles respectively, the rotor having three slots 15. Thus S2 = P1 + P2. The machine may act as a three-phase alternator producing a frequency 3n where n is the rotor speed. If three-phase current is supplied to the exciting winding the machine acts as a frequency changer. If the machine is fed with A.C. and D.C. it will run as a synchronous motor. The functions of the two windings may be interchanged. For single-phase operation it is useful to excite the D.C. winding using two phases in parallel or across two phases with the other shorted, thus providing damping on the quadrature axis. A modification is described in which the two stator windings have the same pole numbers but are in quadrature to prevent mutual inductance. Alternatively the stator winding may comprise two separate star-connected windings whose phases are connected in parallel at the output terminals, the D.C. excitation being applied between the two star points. Other arrangements comprising tappings on a single winding are mentioned.
