Abstract
756,282. Gear changing with clutch control. PORSCHE, F. Sept. 9, 1954 [Nov. 13, 1953], No. 26122/54. Class 80(2) A motor vehicle clutch is engaged by hydraulic pressure acting on a piston 37 linked to a lever 39 of the clutch. Pressure oil from a pump driven by the engine is led through a pipe 2, to an auxiliary control device 3 and thence through a pipe 4 and control slider 29 to the piston 37. The auxiliary control device comprises a piston 7 normally centralized in its cylinder 6 by springs 13, 14, so that the pipes 2, 4, register with a groove 10 in the piston 7 and pressure oil passes directly to act on the piston 37. A pipe 40 leading to the pump suction registers with recesses 11, 12, on opposite sides of the groove 10. The piston 7 is connected by a rod 8 to a ring member 16 to which the gear change lever 9 is pivoted. Movement of the ring 16 is limited by fixed abutments 22, 23. When gear changing initial movement of the lever 9 moves the piston 7 to connect the pipe 4 to the suction pipe 40 whereupon a spring 38 moves the piston 37 to disengage the clutch. Oil in the pressure space 35 is connected to .a pipe 41 leading to the pump suction. .When the gear change is completed the springs 13, 14, return the piston 7 to the central position to re-engage the clutch.
