Abstract

755,994. Batteries. COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES PILES ELECTRIQUES CIPEL. April 15, 1954 [April 16, 1953; Dec. 5, 1953], No. 11245/54. Class 53. A battery is composed of cells each of which comprises a casing E enclosing a plate electrode N of zinc or magnesium carrying a terminal button b which makes contact with the current collector plate m of the positive electrode of the adjacent cell. The plate m carries a depolarizer mass d of manganese dioxide, mercuric oxide, copper chloride or silver chloride, for example, round which a sheet S of paper or other insulating material is wrapped. Between the electrodes is a mass of absorbent material H which is of such dimensions that a chamber C is formed in the cell. The chamber comnnmicates with the exterior of the cell through openings t in the casing. To activate the battery it is immersed in an electrolyte solution. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which depolarization is effected by the atmosphere. which has access to a porous carbon agglomerate 3 through openings 6 in the casing. A space 5 surrounds the agglomerate 3.
