Abstract

755,549. Glazing apparatus for lipsticks, &c. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 10, 1955, No. 5015/54. Class 81(1). An apparatus for glazing sticks of a meltable substance e.g. lipstick, comprises one or more carriers 6 for the sticks 8, which may be contained in holders 7, mounted on a moving belt or chain 1, each carrier or holder having a friction, toothed or equivalent surface 12 which engages with a rack 13 to rotate the inverted stick while moving through heating unit 10 and cooling unit 11. The carrier moves at a speed such that the surface layer of the stick is melted on passing through the heating unit and cooled in the cooling unit to produce the glazed surface. The heating unit may consist of a naked gas/ air flame but an intra-red heater having electrically energised elements or gas heated infra-red panels is preferred. Cooling is produced by air from fan 15 or a compressed air supply.
