[Also in Group XXX] A motor vehicle transporter comprises a tractor 5, and a fifth wheel coupled trailer comprising a number of U-shaped frame members 12, Fig. 4, having cross beams 13 and tubular upright legs 14, longitudinals 15, 16, and 17, and side panels 19. A platform 10 slightly dipped in the centre is provided by removable planks 11 extending between angle irons 21 welded to the longitudinals 15 and 16, the planks being retained by fixed strips 22 and slidable plates 23. Tubular cross beams 27 resting in sockets 28, and a pipe or pipes 29 support the planking. The tractor is provided with vehiclesupporting tracks 31 which may be hinged at 33 to allow adjustment of or a swinging down of the tracks to an inoperative position. Vehicles may be carried on a second tier by manually erected posts 44, 45, strengthened by braces 63, 64, and fitting within the legs 14 to support beams 47 and tracks 48 adjustably and removably hinged to the beams. Several more pairs of sockets may be provided along the trailer to receive the posts in alternative positions. The posts are provided with pairs of clips 51, Fig. 6, which receive tongues 50 on the beams 47, the posts being turnable about their axes to enable the beams 47 to be fixed in an alternative pair of clips 511 at a lower elevation. In a modification, Fig. 8, the beams may comprise a pair of cap brackets 58 fitting over the posts with a bar 60 joining them. The trailer may be loaded with vehicles by using ramps and the platform 10, as in Fig. 1, or the planking 11 may be partly removed to expose ramps 71, 72, and wheel wells 69 and 70 normally covered by flaps such as 76, Fig. 4. When transporting trucks as in Fig. 14, removable legs 81, Fig. 15, support tracks 79 hinged to the sides, and sleeves 89 having bracket arms supporting tracks 48<SP>1</SP> may be slipped down over the posts to support structure 85. In another modification the trailer may be used to transport vehicles in three tiers.
