754,106. Ceilings; floors; j building slabs. HENDERSON, G. J., and HENDERSON, A. J. March 12, 1953 [March 18, 1952], No. 7005/52. Classes 20(4) and 87(1). Structural units made of hard gypsum and internally reinforced with roughened fibre, e.g. glass or nylon, are placed side-by-side with their ends located on end walls, or roofing beams, so that their upper and lower surfaces respectively constitute a continuous floor, or ceiling. The units are preferably made of calcined plaster of Paris mixed with a hardener. To mould a structural unit, e.g. 15 ft. long, 2ft. to 3 ft. wide, and 9 inches deep, about inch of hard gypsum is first placed in a mould having removable inflated pneumatic rubber pipes secured therein to provide cavities, alternate layers of sheet glass fibre and hard gypsum then being added until a unit of the required size is produced. Preferably means are provided for keying adjacent units together. The upper surface of the units, when used as a flooring, should be treated e.g. with wax, or similar oil, or fat, the joints between adjacent units forming a ceiling being filled e.g. with plaster. Alternatively, ceiling paper may be applied as a finishing coat. When the units are exposed to rain, damp, &c., they must be waterproofed, e.g. with bitumen. In countries having a warm climate a protective coating of bitumen aluminium should be applied on top of the bitumen coating. Specification 716,548 [Group V], is referred to.
