Abstract

Glass wool pellets used as carriers of catalysts or reactants for chemical reactions are formed by suspending glass fibres of a length of about 0.5 to 5 cm. in an aqueous liquor and shaking the suspension until pellets of the desired average size and compactness have formed by a matting action. The liquor may be water or an aqueous solution of a binder like water glass or a synthetic resin in the water-soluble state; or it may be an aqueous emulsion of latex, bitumen, synthetic resin or casein. The catalyst or reactant may be dissolved or suspended in or emulsified with, the aqueous liquor. The term "glass wool" is used as including slag wool.ALSO:Glass wool pellets, used as fillers in the production of lightweight building materials from concrete, plaster of Paris or the like, are formed by suspending glass fibres of a length of about 0.5 to 5 cm. in an aqueous liquor and shaking the suspension until pellets of the desired average size and compactness have formed by a matting action. The liquor may be water or an aqueous solution of a binder like water glass or a synthetic resin in the water-soluble state; or it may be an aqueous emulsion of latex, bitumen, synthetic resin or casein. The term "glass wool" is used as including slag wool.
