Abstract
2 - Methyl - 5 - palmitoylhydroquinone is made by passing boron trifluoride gas through a mixture of toluhydroquinone and palmitic acid in tetrachloroethane. 2 - Methyl - 4 - methoxy - 6 - palmitoylphenol is similarly made using 2-methyl-4-methoxyphenol and palmitic acid. 2 - Methyl - 5 - n - hexadecylhydroquinone is made by shaking 2-methyl-5-palmitoylhydroquinone in acetic acid with hydrogen under pressure and in the presence of palladium on charcoal catalyst. 6 - Hexadecyl - 4 - methoxy-2-methylphenol is similarly made from 2-methyl-4-methoxy-6-palmitoylphenol. 2 - Methyl - 5 - sec. - octadecylhydroquinone is prepared by heating toluhydroquinone with 1-octadecene in the presence of anhydrous zinc chloride. 2 - Methyl - 6 - hexadecylhydroquinone is made by refluxing 6-hexadecyl-4-methoxy-2-methylphenol in glacial acetic acid with hydrobromic acid, and then pouring into water.
