Class 146(3) A pencil holder has an externally screwthreaded casing 1 engaged by an intern- . ally screw-threaded ring 9, such that screwing of the ring 9 in the appropriate direction causes a block 6, having one or two wings 7 slidable in a longitudinal slot 5 of the casing 1, to advance a lead 4 in a bore 3 towards the tapered end 2 of the casing 1. The slot 5 extends diametrically through the casing when the block 6 is provided with two wings 7.. The casing may be tapered at both ends and have two blocks 6 which each advance a differently coloured lead by operation of the ring 9, or one ring 9 may be provided for each block 6. The casing 1 may be formed in halves secured together by riveting, cementing, or screwing when the casing is of synthetic plastic material, or by spot welding, cementing, or riveting when the casing is of metal. To prevent the lead 4 falling out the extreme tip of the end 2 is made resilient by slots 14, or the bore 3 may be coated with adhesive.
