Pieces of wet ice from a screening shoot 5 are dried by passing them between oppositelyrotating cylinders 1 having absorbent elastic coatings 2 such as foamed rubber, rollers 3 pressed against the cylinders squeezing out water from the coatings on to drip plates 4. The cylinders may rotate with the same angular velocity or with different velocities to cause the ice to roll over the coatings 2.
