Abstract
751,138. Aerials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 26, 1954 [April 4, 1953], No. 8928/54. Class 40 (7). A directional antenna comprises a winding arranged round the broad side surfaces of a flat rectangular plate of ferrite material, the device being pivoted for angular movement in such a way that the axis of the winding is always substantially horizontal. Fig. 1 shows such an arrangement schematically, A-A being the axis of the coil and B-B a suitable axis of. rotation. The axis of rotation need not be an axis of symmetry but may be any axis parallel to B-B. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the sheet may lie in a horizontal plane and the axis of rotation be perpendicular to the sheet. For confined spaces the height of the sheet may be made greater than its thickness (Fig. 3, not shown), so as not to sweep over such a large ground area as the embodiment of Fig. 1. The antenna is suitable for incorporation in the cabinet of a radio receiver and may be driven manually or by motor under the control of suitable actuating means of which a number are described.
