Abstract
750,948. Piston packing. BERGERON, A. Jan. 26, 1954, No. 2326/54. Class 122(1) A piston ring 7 comprises a joint formed by overlapping tongues 8, 9, and an eccentric groove 12 in its inner periphery to facilitate uniform bearing pressure in the cylinder, the groove terminating short of the end portions of the ring and being of minimum depth at the centre of its length. The ring is pressed axially by a spring 10 concave for at least the major portion of its length and the circumferential expansion of which is restricted by a flange 13 engaging the recessed inner periphery of the ring 7. Radial slots 20 may be provided in the spring 10 to increase its flexibility and the slots may be terminated in holes which are sealed by contact with the ring 7. The latter may be of cast-iron and the spring of alloy. Specification 750,949 is referred to.
