Abstract
A composition for waterproofing masonry comprises an organopolysiloxane resin and an organic ester of titanic acid. The resin is preferably a methyl or methyl phenyl polysiloxane having an R/Si ratio of between 1 and 1.7. Butyl titanate is the specified ester. The composition may be in the form of a solution in a common solvent to which other ingredients such as paraffins, waxes and stearates have been added. The resin and titanate may be applied successively to the masonry and the resin may also be formed in situ, e.g. by applying a solution of methyl tri-(2-chloroethoxy)-silane and butyl titanate in white spirit and allowing to dry. Specifications 708,821, [Group VIII], and 723,989 are referred to.ALSO:Materials employed in masonry, such as brick, cement and plaster, are waterproofed by applying a coating of an organopolysiloxane resin and an organic ester of titanic acid, e.g. butyl titanate. The resin and ester may be applied in admixture in a common solvent or as successive coatings. Other materials such as paraffins, waxes and stearates may be added to the solutions. The resin may also be formed in situ by applying a solution of titanate and hydrolysable silane which, after evaporation of the solvent, undergoes hydrolysis to the polysiloxane. Specifications 708,821 [Group VIII] and 723,989 are referred to.
