Abstract
750,755. Anti-glare screens for vehicles. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. May 24, 1954 [June 1, 1953], No. 15295/54. Class 103 (2). A sun visor for a vehicle body having a foldable top and including a bow-shaped front header with the concave face to the rear is curved substantially to conform to the concave face of the header and is mounted so that, in the raised position it rests on the concave face of the header and, in its lowered position, it depends in a shading position below the header. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a vehicle body A has a forwardly bowed header bar 20 above a correspondingly curved windshield 21, the header bar being adapted to support a top header 22 of a folding top B when the top is unfolded. A curved visor blade 23 which may be opaque or translucent is pivotally suspended inside the windshield by a hanger member 24 pivotally secured to the header bar 20. Both the visor 23 and the hanger member 24 are freely pivoted upon the application of manual force to the visor, but are frictionally retained at any adjusted position. In a modification the visor is connected to the header bar by a pair of swinging arms near opposite ends of the visor. In the construction shown in Figs. 11 and 12, the visor 60 is adjustably supported by an 8-shaped arm 61 with end portions terminating in balls 62, 63 in sockets curved respectively by the header bar and visor. The visor and arm 61 as a unit may turn in a vertical plane about the horizontal and forwardly-extending axis of the ball 62, and the visor may turn similarly around ball 63. Sufficient friction is provided to retain the visor in any adjusted position. The movement of the visor is, however, not limited to movement about a vehicle plane. In a further construction the visor is connected to the header bar by a swing- ing arm so that the operation of the visor is similar to that of the visor 60 except that the adjustability of the visor is confined to a single vertical plane.
