748,491. Look-out devices for vehicles. ALTAIR OPTICAL CO., Ltd., and CRAGG, A. K. Jan. 22, 1954 [Oct. 25, 1952], No. 26819/52. Class 103 (2). [Also in Group XX] A look-out device for vehicles is provided with means for attachment to the offside of the vehicle and comprises a pair of light-refracting prismatic elements mounted for relative rotational adjustment on a common axis so that when fitted to a forward side part of a vehicle with the axis disposed longitudinally thereof, the adjustment can be made so that the emergent ray at the rear of the device is directed towards the driver. The device shown is fixed by bracket 2 to the offside of a vehicle and comprises a cylinder in two parts 9, 10, each part containing a prism 15 of plastic material, a glass disc, and a prism 17 of liquid paraffin. One of the discs 13 is of weak negative spherical form for increasing the field of vision. Each of the cylinders 9, 10 is separately adjustable so that the refraction may be adjusted to suit the driver of the vehicle, the cylinders being clamped together by the bracket 2, part of which is in the form of a split ring held tightly on the cylinders by an adjusting screw 24. The bracket 2 is used with a clamping screw 26 to fix the device to the vehicle.
