For elevated railway vehicles 19 which may run on a single rail 17, platforms 14 are provided. arranged like balconies projecting from or recessed within the front line of the street building. Double deck vehicles 19, Fig. 2, are provided with two platforms 14 and 14a. In this case a catch guard 22 is provided to intercept falling debris or passengers. In Fig. 3 an overhanging garage of several storeys may be provided above the vehicles with a lift for automobiles. In Fig. 7 with rails S, N crossing rails 0, W at a lower level, a pair of upper rail tracks S and N have a common island platform 33 supported by the corner buildings of crossing streets from which platform 33 is suspended another island platform 34, Fig. 8 (not shown), to serve the crossing rails 0, W at the lower level. The platform passengers may be protected from incoming trains by a fence 38, Fig. 9, pivoted to a counterweight 39 to swing down, e.g. automatically, when such train stops. Alternatively lattice gates may be used which open and close.
