747,692. Electric indicating systems. BALDWIN-LIMA-HAMILTON CORPORATION. Oct. 22, 1953 [June 11, 1953],. No. 29176/53. Class 40(1) In a load measuring device in which a sensitive element is axially extended according to the load, stop means are provided for taking the load in the event of failure of the sensitive element. As shown, a load, suspended, e.g. by means of a crane hook from the end 2 of a vertical member 1, is measured in any known way, eg. by means of electric strain gauges 4 secured to a reduced portion of the member 1. The member 1 is secured to a base 5 fixed to a casing 6 the upper portion of which has annular flexure members 9, 10 secured thereto and to a sleeve 13, for centralizing the piston-like portion 12 of the member 1. Should the member 1 fail due, e.g. to overloading, the flange 18 thereof engages and lifts the sleeve 13, the flange 16 on which engages the flange 14 secured to the casing 6 whereby the casing takes the load. A further flange 22 is provided on the casing to take the load should the member 1 fail in the case of a compression load.
