Abstract
747,562. Automatic exchange systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Feb. 16, 1954 [March 30, 1953], No. 8698/53. Class 40 (4). Apparatus is provided which produces repeated metering of a connection at the end of each of a number of equal periods of time, in response .to the normal metering signal when the called party answers. Application of the usual positive metering signal (by means not shown) to the P wire (Fig. 1) operates the subscriber's meter (not shown) and also energizes the start relay ST, which locks up. Negative battery is thus connected to the cathode of VI, and the condenser C1 previously charged over back ST discharges through R2. After a time determined by the values of C1 and R2, the valve VI conducts, whereupon relay A operates and applies a further metering signal to the P wire. Relay A also connects negative battery to C1 (which is recharged) and V1 (which is cut off). Relay A then restores and the cycle is repeated until, on termination of the call, relay B releases followed by ST. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, operation of ST replaces the negative battery normally connected to the striker of cold cathode tube T1 by a connection to an impulsing machine supplying positive impulses. After a time dependent upon the values of C1 and R2 and the make-to-break ratio of the impulses, C1 charges sufficiently to fire T1. Relay A then operates, applies a further metering signal to the P wire, connects the striker of T1 to negative battery, and its cathode to positive battery. Tube T1 is extinguished and relay A restores.
