Abstract

688,664. Automatic exchange systems. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. Nov. 28, 1950 [Nov. 28, 1949], No. 29102/50. Class 40 (iv). In an automatic telephone system multi-metering is controlled by the appropriate one of a number of common impulse generators, one per tariff, which sends impulses to a link circuit after the called party answers, the first said impulse operating means connected to the link circuit so that subsequent impulses cause the stepping of the calling party's meter to which the link is extended, the meter taking another step when the connection is released. The outgoing junction repeater shown includes a switch TV which connects up the appropriate contacts 9 and off-normal contacts 10, 11. On seizure R1 pulls up followed by R2, but the polarized R5 remains down. The register then sends an extra digit, indicative of the tariff for the call, in the form of battery impulses on a1 and b1 to which R11 responds, stepping TV to the appropriate position. On the reply of the called party R5 responds to the usual battery reversal on a2, b2. This results in the operation of R6, R7 (which repeats the battery reversal over a1, b1), and R8 (which energizes the meter SR). The first impulse from TV brings up R9, R10 coming up in series at the end of the impulse, whereupon R9 is released. As R7 remains up during these momentary disconnections, SR is not released and consequently does not step. When R9 responds to each subsequent impulse from TV, R7 releases for the duration of the impulse and SR is stepped. When the parties hang up R1 and R5 release and all the relays and TV restore, SR taking another step in the process.
