747,258. Control mechanism for cycles. PHILLIPS & CO., Ltd., J. A. April 8, 1954 [April 9, 1953], No. 9631/53. Class 136 (1). A guide for the operating cable of a variablespeed gear or brake mechanism of cycles comprises an arcuate channel part 1 adapted to receive the cable 11, a flange 3 forming a wall of the channel part 1 having an extension parallel to the wall forming an attachment portion 4 (Fig. 1) and having an eye 5 concentric with the arc of the channel part 1 for the passage of the seat pillar clamping bolt 6 (Fig. 5). The other wall of the channel is formed by a flange 2. The flanges 2, 3 may be parallel or the flange 2 may be helical in form. The attachment plate 4 may be disposed slightly to the side remote from the channel 1 or the plate 4 and flange 3 may lie in the same plane. As shown in Fig. 4, the guide is formed from two pressings 7, 8. The attachment plates 4a, 4b are welded together to form the attachment portion 4 of the guide.
