Abstract

747,130. Spectacle frames. BRITISH AMERICAN OPTICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 12, 1954, No. 4253/54. Class 97 (1). A spectacle frame has a pair of lens-supporting rim members each having a section shaped to follow the upper contour shape of a lens from adjacent its nasal side to adjacent its temporal side and joined by a central bridge and a pair of separate readily replaceable snap-on ornamental or decorative trims each having a channel in the under surface to receive the said section of the rim and latch means adjacent their opposed ends to interlock with portions of the frame to hold the trims in position. As shown, the frame comprises a metallic bridge 16 connecting metallic lens rims 15 split at the temporal sides and carrying lugs 17, 18 to which the temples 22 are hinged. A trim 28 of non- metallic or metallic material or partly of both is detachably secured to each rim by engagement of a recess 32 with the bridge 16 and of a recess 35 with the lugs 17, 18, the rim being held in a groove in the member by the resilience of the material or by a spring clip attached to the temporal end and engaging the lugs 17, 18. A second detachable member 29 has inturned edges 44, 45 forming an internal groove in which the temple 22 may be located by sliding the member 29 over the temple. By this means the colour of the spectacles may be changed at will.
