A compartment passenger vehicle has a centre aisle 14 on each side of which are compartments defined by transverse partition walls 20, 21, which have offset portions forming alcoves A1, A2 and B1, B2, bed frame panels being mounted in the alcoves so as to swing from a generally vertical stowed position to a horizontal in-use position. The floors of adjacent compartments A, B are at different levels. Each compartment A has a seat 25A, a folding wash-basin 27, a toilet 26 and a bed comprising a head end panel 30A1, a foot end panel 30A2, and a mattress comprising a part 33A1 carried by the head end panel and a part 33A2 carried by the foot end panel. Each compartment B is similarly equipped. When the bed is to be used the back, arms and seat cushion of the seat 25A are moved down below the bed panel and the head end panel 30A1 of the bed is supported on the frame of the seat. The foot end panel 30A2 is supported partly by a telescopic hinged leg 53. Similar legs are used to support both bed panels of an upper compartment B. The alcoves do not extend the full width of the compartments, and the toilets are located near the aisle where there are no. alcoves. Each compartment is provided with an aisle doorway 46 closed by a sliding door 47. Steps 50 are provided at the door of the upper compartment B. There is a gap in the floor 22 of the door and a metal plate 51 closes this gap when the door is closed. In a modification the toilets instead of being alongside the seats in. the compartments are placed diagonally opposite.
