[Also in Group XL (c)] An exchange is linked by radio to a substation and responds to a calling carrier signal only after a delay so as to avoid spurious calls due to radio " noise." To ring the operator, the carrier is interrupted either by momentarily replacing the receiver or by pressing a button on the set. At the end of a call, a clearance signal is given to the operator automatically. At the exchange terminal of the radio link, slow-to-operate relay RS responds to the calling carrier and is followed by A and B. On interruption of the carrier, ringing current from terminals 18, 19 is transmitted to exchange 15 during the delay in release of B. A burst of ringing current is transmitted in the same way when the substation clears. When the exchange calls the substation, line relay A responds to ringing current, rectified at 20, and switches on the transmitter 11 for the duration of the ringing current.
