Abstract
745,010. X-ray apparatus. METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. July 19, 1954 [July 17, 1953], No. 19934/53. Class 98 (1). An X-ray tube support mounted on a base for rotation about a vertical axis and having a radial arm carrying an X-ray tube capable of directing a beam of X-rays vertically, includes means for limiting the rotation of the support to an amount corresponding to the displacement of the tube required for stereoradiography. As shown in Fig. 1, a vertical tube support 1 is mounted by a thrust bearing 3 on a carriage 2 travelling on rails 10. A further thrust bearing 6 may be supported in a boss 8 on the base of the carriage, which also supports a locating disc 11. Disc 11 (Fig. 2) has four notches 12 with deeper central parts. An arm 14, pivoted on the tube support, is urged by a spring 16 into the central part of one of the notches, wherein it fits snugly. An electromagnet 18, when energized, lifts the arm 14 out of the central part into a position in which it is free to move along the whole length of the slot. This movement enables the tube to move through the distance required for stereoradiography. A second electromagnet 19, when energized, lifts the arm 14 completely clear of the notch.
