Abstract
Alkali metal pyro- and tri-phosphates of low bulk weight are obtained by spraying solutions or melts of dialkali orthophosphates into a hot gas zone so as to produce no friction or local heating which cause sintering and so that the diameter of calcined particles lies between 0.02-0.6 mms. This low bulk weight orthophosphate calcinate is converted into polyphosphate at a temperature between 450 DEG -550 DEG C., again without local heating or friction that might cause agglomeration. The end product is screened without crushing so that the product attains a particle diameter between 0.02-0.6 mms. The introduction of substances which decompose at the temperature of conversion so as to maintain low bulk weight is also mentioned. Specifications 708,138 and 742,623 are referred to.
